Happy Birthday, Martin Luther King, Jr.

I promised myself I would do something to remember MLK, Jr. today.  I knew there were parades and other activities going on around Sac, but I hadn't figured out what I was going to do.  Imagine my surprise when, while putting in my contact lenses, I heard a marching band.  There was a parade going down P Street!!  The celebration came to me!

I cried.

I don't even know why.  Maybe it's because I miss the good ol' days of band (I am wearing my band camp t-shirt from 1999).  Maybe it's because I'm so proud of what MLK did.  Maybe it's because today's celebration means a little bit more.

In the words of one of the paraders, "Rosa sat so Martin could march.  Martin marched so Obama could run."
